Amit Shah Congratulates ABVP After Winning Three Key Posts in DUSU Elections 2026
New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) after the organisation won three of the four central panel posts in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections 2026.
ABVP candidates secured the posts of President, Secretary and Joint Secretary, while independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the Vice-President position.
Amit Shah Reacts to DUSU Result
Responding to the election outcome, Shah said Delhi University attracts students from across India and argued that the result therefore carried a wider message about the political outlook of young people.
He described the ABVP performance as reflecting support for what he called the “Nation First” approach and congratulated the organisation’s workers for their campaign and election success.
Shah also said he expected ABVP representatives to continue focusing on student welfare and nation-building while drawing inspiration from the ideals of Swami Vivekananda.
ABVP Wins Three Central Panel Posts
In the presidential contest, Yash Dabas of ABVP secured 24,576 votes and defeated NSUI candidate Vijay Shankar Meena, who received 22,523 votes.
ABVP’s Riya Chhawdi won the Secretary post, while Lakshya Raj Singh emerged victorious in the Joint Secretary contest.
The Vice-President post went to independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen, who received 30,615 votes.
BJP Leaders Welcome the Result
Several BJP leaders, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP president Nitin Nabin, also congratulated the ABVP following the results.
Their statements linked the organisation’s performance to support among students for its stated focus on nationalism, student welfare and constructive campus politics. These interpretations were made by the BJP leaders in their responses to the election outcome.
NSUI Raises Questions Over Election Process
The election also saw political disagreement over the counting process. NSUI representatives alleged irregularities and questioned aspects of the election process, while the declared results gave ABVP three of the four central posts.
The DUSU elections remain one of the most closely watched student political contests in the country, with national student organisations competing over issues including campus infrastructure, accommodation, safety and student welfare.
